Today was day one as a volunteer at the Veteran's Home near my neighborhood. Upon checking into the office, I discovered that I have been assigned to the Memory Care wing. I followed a very short woman to the farthest part of the building; going through many heavy doors, a few of which required remotes and keys to open. My happy face and cheerful disposition soon seemed no brighter than candle light once I discovered what our activity was. FINGER PAINTING. That is correct- a whole bunch of old men finger painting with pudding manipulated into pretty colors with food dye. Was I excited? Nope. I was ecstatic! The old guys took a while to get into it, but we all still had fun. I assisted in the creation to a space shuttle and I can tell you that it was defiantly something to behold.
After painting we all sat in the living room and sang Jingle Bells. The old man next to me took a liking to my hand and decided that he was going to hold it for the event. That is until he forgot where he was.
All in all, today was a pretty great experience. But I must say, they do smell funny.
You have the makings of a great blogger! I like it already.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I think this is going to be pretty fun.
